Overall this place helped me a lot. The staff were great when I was there. There were only a couple times that I had incidents with staff. I have severe sleep apnea and didn’t like to get out of bed at 8 in the morning though the staff ask me nicely over and over it ended up with my blanket getting ripped off me and yelling at me. Though I don’t see this was a very pleasant experience but I was being unresponsive to anything the staff was doing to get me out of bed. I was in this program for three months I was of the high levels when I left and my therapist still told me I wasn’t ready to leave. Though I’m doing great in the world. My therapist was something else they would always make my therapy about them in a certain way and put their experiences higher then mine. It made me feel like my problems were nothing at all. I did make friends in the time there and that made my experience way better. The staff were lovely towards me. They put me on medication that they did not tell my parents about. It made me gain weight and always be hungry. The cook was amazing but if I went back for more or if I said I was still hungry there would be little comments about the way I ate. The staff did good at de-escalating situations but if I were having a really hard time they would just give me medication to calm me down and usually put me to sleep because of the severe sleep apnea and the way I slept there. I was sharing a room with two people and my snoring were annoying them one night the next day I tried to solve the situation and asked if I could be put in a room by myself or if the girl that was getting angry with it goes into another room. I ended up staying awake with staff until the girls fell asleep so I didn’t get yelled at by one of them. That night was fun and the staff were very nice. There was a lot of drama with the girls in there and staff didn’t always handle it. Most of the girls at my time either didn’t like me or were very friendly towards me. I would joke (but I was mostly serious) on having another therapist because there was another one that help me a lot. And my therapist took it as a insult and made a whole hour of what was supposed to be my therapy time into her complaining on how she was my therapist. The higher the level you are you get different privileges like going out or watching a movie with snacks I was very fun. The way they said they were helping only half of it was helpful. I can’t deal with yelling now because there was so much of it in the house and the fights and the drama was just too intense. I also felt in the group therapy it was just to have people team up on you even if you were just trying to get through the day. It’s just known if your gonna put a bunch of girls in a house together there’s gonna be judgment. Not one day out of the three months I didn’t feel like someone staff or not was judging me. I didn’t like the three months I had to stay here but the staff made it very enjoyable and it did help me because every time I think of harming myself or want to act out I think that I don’t want to go back.

I was a patient here at IHE. I was here for 8-9 months. If I could give this place ANY LESS than 1 star I would. My ex-foster mother also wrote a review here for me since the one I originally wrote, I cannot find. Let me tell you guys what I saw during my time here. I'll try to keep it short as there was A LOT.

I was here at imperial about a year or two ago. I was there for suicide attempts and I had issues at home. My first therapist (I won't name her as she doesn't work here anymore) sided ONLY with my mother. And from this I was accused of being a liar, and kept there like it was a daycare.
They told me that my father was ignoring family therapy, and didn't want to show up. Eventually, they took him off my call list completely. For no reason. I came to find out when I spoke to my father after this, that they PURPOSELY were excluding him. These people told me that my father was a horrible father and that he did not want me. But the whole time he was trying his hardest to reach me. I would write letters, and they would throw them away. NOT ONE reached my father.
Our chef was amazing. But when we spoke about how we were still hungry, we were turned down and told we ate too much and that there needs to be enough for the staff to eat as well. We were not allowed to go and refill our water bottles whenever we needed to, and we were not allowed to ask for snacks. If we were hungry, we had to wait for snack time or meal time.
I witnessed about four people attempt suicide while I was there. The first one was within my first week.
The bullying that the house allowed was absolutely insane. I was accused of lying and bullying the others, but when I would try to speak out and defend myself, I was ignored. I witnessed MULTIPLE friends of mine being gossiped about and bullied. And one friend of mine who was bullied simply for her beliefs. They let this happen. The staff AND therapists played favorites. If you weren't a favorite, chances are your stay will be hell.
Let's talk about our punishments now. If we advocated for ourselves (needing a room switch, someone's bothering us, e.t.c) we were told to deal with it ourselves. We had a group during the day where the girls in the house were supposed take the time to communicate and talk to who ever they were having problems with. No. This group was literally just girls bullying and teaming up on others for the sake of their mental health. IHE also worked with a phase system. There are four phases. These phases were supposed to be based on how well you behaved and how well you were progressing. It was definitely based on how well you listened (and favoritism I cannot stress this enough). If you were in trouble, or seen as "a problem" as some staff would say, you were put on phase hold. Phase hold means ALL of your privileges are taken away, you can't even call your family. I was on phase hold A LOT. The only times I would speak to my family was family therapy. And I was not allowed to leave the house. Towards the end of my stay they switched to a scoring system. With this scoring system they also introduced "quiet time." Quiet time was when an individual (or the entire house) got into trouble or didn't get a high enough score, they were not allowed to speak to each other or even the staff. We would get in trouble for even asking questions. Sometimes "quiet time" would last days.
Oh yeah, and let's not forget that one of the staff members ended up ENGAGED to one of the girls I was there with. How crazy.
I CANNOT stress enough how much I despise this place. I still have nightmares of the things that I have witnessed there. If you love your children DO YOUR RESEARCH. I was hoping that they had changed but from what I have seen from recent reviews, it doesn't look like it has.
I understand this job must be so hard sometimes. I know that the staff has seen some things that they have to live with. But in no way does this excuse how we were treated. Do better for your children.

Parents - if you're as scared as I was about all the reports of abuse, neglect and/or general mismanagement of Residential Treatment Facilities, you're going to want to read this. Imperial Healing Estate is not only one of the GOOD ones - they're SUPERB. Truly. My daughter went in with intense suicidality. I'd heard the KUER series "Shut Away" and had read reviews of kids being treated like felons at best, like animals at the worst. I was terrified. Imperial went above and beyond to not only ...

Imperial Healing Estate is not only one of the GOOD ones - they're SUPERB. Truly. My daughter went in with intense suicidality. I'd heard the KUER series "Shut Away" and had read reviews of kids being treated like felons at best, like animals at the worst. I was terrified. Imperial went above and beyond to not only answer my questions, but to ensure I had transparency into what was happening with my girl. She was given a confidential call every week, so I knew she could tell me if anything was out of sorts. Lexi and the rest of the staff answered any and all questions I had in a timely and kind manner. I can't say enough good things. And my girl is doing beautifully. But ask ALL the questions. Their answers and their policies of safety will give you great peace and hope.

Placing a child in treatment is a difficult decision. You invite their team into your family circle and entrust them with the care of your loved one. The team at IHE was welcoming, communicative and very helpful. The care plan they developed for my daughter was tailored to her specific needs. They worked hard (and sometimes creatively) to involve all of the family members in the healing process so she could return home to a healthier family with more effective communication skills and better boundaries.
I would not hesitate to refer anyone I love to the care of this wonderful place and their skilled team. We appreciate them. They’ve changed our lives and given our daughter mental and emotional freedom she didn’t dream was possible. We love Imperial!

I am the foster parent of a youth who stayed here for 8 months, and she says it was the worst mental health facility she has ever been to. The staff was inappropriate and unprofessional. Their food was restricted and they were told they eat too much if they said they are hungry. When told about concerns, the staff was insincere and gave calloused responses. She witnessed four attempted suicides during that time and still has nightmares about the place. She felt that the staff was condescending and looked down on the clients because of their mental health needs. She often felt blamed and was lied about. Often, patients were put on “silent time” and were not allowed to talk to other patients or staff — sometimes for days at a time. They were scored and then punished if they did talk. Privileges were taken away from patients (including family visits) and the whole house when patients advocated for themselves (e.g. asked to switch rooms).
It grieves my heart that there is so little accountability for these kinds of places, and that these injustices are inflicted upon already vulnerable and traumatized children. This is certainly a difficult place to work, and my foster daughter does acknowledge some staff who were helpful (including Ariel, her therapist, Jessica, Daniel, and Rick). But it doesn’t excuse what happens there. Her words: “I really hope that was just a low point in how the facility was being run and I hope eventually they treat the girls the way they deserve to be treated, but no one should ever have to go through what I went through there. And if they don’t get better, they need to be shut down.”

I had to count when I was in the bathroom, I had to have staff watch me shower, I had a horrible experience there. I would NOT suggest bringing any of your kids there. Please don’t let your kids be admitted to this estate! It’s a horrible place! If your kids get put on 1:1 pull them out immediately!! The staff have to watch your kids shower! And they watch your kids sleep!! It’s a horrible estate. The fact that after I showered I would have to count until I got my underwear and bra on and then come back out and have the staff WATCH me get dressed WITH THE DOOR OPEN FOR EVERYONE ELSE OUTSIDE TO SEE. When I voiced my opinion to others in the “therapy” time they would kick me out. A girl in the estate continued to harm herself with her nails. My dad barley got any calls from me because the staff would refuse me to get a call with my dad. This is not the estate people claim it to be. Please don’t enter your child into this estate. I have constant panic attacks from people around me doing the same thing the staff did in the estate. This is not a healing environment, this is a home of pain.

Imperial Healing Estate... what can I say? If I had one word to describe this place it would be traumatic. Most of the staff were completely not involved at all with the job and were just there to shout orders and put us down. (There were also some really sweet staff so I’m not saying this about all of them) I had property of mine that was given to another patient and they have not done anything to replace or repay me for it. I was under so much stress that I was having pseudo seizures every day which they did not even get me ACTUAL help for until one night I stopped breathing for a significant amount of time. The directors of this place are not only completely irresponsible but master manipulators when it comes to exchanging (or not) information about the patients situation to the parents. I was punished for speaking up for my needs and I was put down for Seemingly everything I said. During my stay I witnessed and heard about plenty of abuse with other patients, but those aren’t my stories to tell. Anyway DO NOT send your daughter here if you want her to get help because she won’t get it at IHE.

Emotional abuse included gaslighting, passive aggression, emotional exploitation, and a tactic called "Dogwhistling"
"Dogwhistling" in this case is when you do something to trigger the symptoms of a mental illness in someone else to manipulate them or others into thinking poorly of them.
Most the one star reviews could mention worse, I knew these girls and was the one throwing things and myself into the walls, headfirst.
The staff were head throw into wall worthy I literally have a TBI because staff would belittle and dogwhistle me while allowing bullying to run amok.
