Was never abused or anything of that nature. Staff is there to do their jobs and if someone has an episode where they are uncontrollable you are restrained like anywhere else. They aren’t going to let you throw a tantrum. I loved the staff that I had and they cared. This was years and years ago. No clue how new staff, if any, acts. Mr rob was awesome. Sometimes people just need people to be there, listen, and just connect, along with getting treatment.

Parent review- If I could rate 0 starts I would. My 9 year old went here for 5 days to get some help, and was more terrified of the place than the thoughts inside her own head!
She witnessed staff dragging kids by their feet into their rooms (not combative kids, just screaming kids). She witness staff screaming at kids for not moving or working fast enough. She witnessed staff dragging kids by their feet into their rooms (not combative kids, just screaming kids). She witness staff screaming at kids for not moving or working fast enough. When she started to cry from all the screaming she was told that if she cried it would go on her permanent record and she would have to stay longer.
The night before she was being picked up to come home, she was crying because she was anxious and missed home. Staff told her they would take her bed and make her sleep in a room without a bed if she didn’t stop crying. Also told her that if that happened, she would not be allowed to go home even if someone showed up to get her.
This place is an absolute disgrace! Doctors and nurses either turn a blind eye or are completely negligent in seeing how these children are treated. Trust me, nothing they are going through is going to be helped by this place. They will just be too scared to go back!
Child review- I was here for 5 days and this absolutely disgusting I saw kids get DRAGGED in rooms for doing absolutely NOTHING and the fact that these are not there kids and also NOT EVEN RELATED TO THEM there was a saying that was myob mind ur own business and also they used it when the kids were DOING NOTHING WRONG! This place was horrible and dirty I never saw them clean ever in my 5 days there! If u look at the photo below that is where I spent 5 days! I don’t recommend this and if u don’t want ur child to have horrible experiences then find another place.

I don’t usually post but after reading reviews when my son had to come here I was pretty worried. I’m here to say though not many people write good things. For the 15 days he was there he had a pleasant experience and the staff was very informative and communicated well with our family and other medical professionals for my son. He was put on the correct medication and was able to come home to continue our outside plan.

Staff were just upright r*tarded. Honestly. This is by far the WORST facility I have EVER been to. Nurses were alright, fairly nice, but staff were horrid. I had been in boys 1 and if we had so much as said a word we would not be able to watch tv or go outside. Bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. Pee all over the floors. Moldy. I had slept on boys 2 and it was worse there. Usually, there would be a staff yelling and laughing on his phone. Staff were completely absent. They sat on their phon...

There had been 8 fights in my 21 days of being there. Staff just let it happen. Not to mention, the CDR (isolation room) didn't have proper locks. Staff had declined me of phone calls and yelled at me when I had asked for one. Pro tip: Fire Dwayne. Worst one by far. Fire him. Immediately.

Out of the 4 different psych hospitals I've been in, this one is by far THE WORST out of all of them. I have stayed here twice, and both times the staff were EXTREMELY disrespectful to the patients and even downright abusive. If you want your child to have the worst psychiatric care possible, then send them here. While I was trying to sleep, the night time staff were blasting music on a very loud speaker. I have stayed here twice, and both times the staff were EXTREMELY disrespectful to the patients and even downright abusive. If you want your child to have the worst psychiatric care possible, then send them here. While I was trying to sleep, the night time staff were blasting music on a very loud speaker. These staff then reported me and my roommates for being up too late. Another time a staff told a girl that she could see why her parents didn't want her. I have been SA'd in here and when I reported it to staff not much was done about it. The first time I stayed here the doctors and social workers LIED to me multiple times in order to keep me from signing a 72 hour release form. They ended up keeping me there for an entire month by making up excuses as to why I "needed" to stay longer. I was told that my parents were ready to 302 me if I tried to sign the 72 hour form, and that was a complete lie. Absolutely do not trust this hospital with caring for your child, because they're most likely gonna come out of it even worse than before.

As I sat in a local ER, my child was in crisis. I was at a complete loss and terrified. I was thrust into a world of mental health I knew nothing about. The doctor explained that my son would need to be admitted into a hospital that specializes in these things. When word came to me that Southwood would be his destination, I quickly went to google to look at reviews to calm my heart. I was devastated to see bad reviews.

That very evening, while still in the local ER, I received my first call from the facility. A man named Christian walked me through the process that was to come. He was kind and patient. I felt a tiny bit better.
The next day, we arrived at the facility. We were met by Christian. My son was admitted. I was soon contacted by my son’s social worker. Her name was Sydney. She would be my main contact for any concerns. I was given her phone number to call anytime. She facilitated visits between my son and I that took place daily. She called every morning to tell me about his medication, doses, and any changes, as well as how his night had gone. She answered many questions, and if she didn’t know, she would find out and promptly call me back. My son was also allowed an evening phone call to me that he could tell me goodnight. The communication was on point.
All of the staff were warm and welcoming. At each of my daily visits I would meet more staff that were helping my son in different ways, and generally being encouraging.
Above all the rest was a wonder man named Aaron. He would become my saving grace. He has a way of connecting to my child, and myself. He could talk my son through, and ease his fears. He took the time to really learn about my son, and used that information to further engage with him. I truly feel that made such a stunning impact on my child’s recovery. He was honest in his approach, empathetic in his delivery, and skilled with his care.
I am sorry if you are a parent who has just run to google and found that only people that have a complaint have left reviews. I am here to tell you that Southwood was exactly the place that my son needed to be. In the weeks he was there, the staff was compassionate, and knowledgeable. The communication with my family was detailed, and frequent. I never had a question left unanswered. Dr. Gupta was on top of things at all times.
My son is now home, and continues his recovery journey. Southwood was efficient on making certain that we had follow up care set up upon our return home. I am and forever will be grateful for all of the staff at Southwood.

This is not a hospital but a prison where staff abuse and violate the rights of vulnerable children. We voluntarily admitted our child on the promise of receiving care and he received abuse instead. This is not a hospital but a prison where staff abuse and violate the rights of vulnerable children. We voluntarily admitted our child on the promise of receiving care and he received abuse instead. The Dr. slapped on multiple incorrect diagnoses without following any of the diagnostic criteria and then simply medicated the child and continued to increase dosages until the child complied with any and all instructions. My child attempted to assert his right to a second opinion and was met with a threat that if he does that they will keep him there longer. Southwood then discharged him without ever providing the care promised. Of course, they billed over $12,000 for this incompetent and non-existent care.
During his time he was threatened with being chemically restrained due to the behavior of other patients. He was also warned that other patients will attempt to sabotage his discharge. Why is a child being threatened with continued hospitalization and being forcibly drugged over the behavior of other patients. It is the staff’s responsibility to manage those behaviors.
Every medical and mental health professional that has joined my child’s treatment team since discharge is appalled at the sloppy and unethical practices of Southwood. One even said she wishes she’d met us sooner because she begs parents not to send children to Southwood.
Lastly, my child requested his medical records so that we can begin to pursue hopefully some form of justice and we found that the Dr. wildly falsified information in the records claiming to have not received information from the parents that was absolutely provided and we were available anytime to provide further information. I firmly believe this Dr. was setting the stage to justify extending the hospitalization by falsifying records and only discharged him so suddenly when he realized that we would assert the patient’s rights.

I was there a total of 6 times between the ages of 7 and 15 and I’ve had good experiences and bad! For example I had a staff member punch me in the face while I was in a restraint to stop me from moving and I had a staff member take me to the gym because I was super energetic to let me run around a little bit to try and help me! I know she. Staff wasn’t paying attention two girls would go into the bedroom and do inappropriate things while another girl stood at the door to keep watch for staff...
