was sent here after a suicide attempt in seventh grade. was terrified at first, but the staff made me feel very welcomed. my first full day there I was allowed to sleep in and a staff member stayed behind to keep an eye on me. when I woke up, he explained that I was given more time to sleep, then he got me breakfast and my medicine, let me take my time getting ready, and took me to the rest of the group. we were checked on through out the night, given activities to keep us occupied, given a pretty fair amount of free time, and the food was shockingly great. the only things I didn't like was how I wasn't allowed to hug my friend to comfort them and how we weren't allowed to trade contact info so we could stay in touch after being released. parents and family are allowed to come visit and bring gifts and you're given time to call your family. the medication I was prescribed there helped me and continues to help me to this day. I'm very thankful for them

Truthfully don't think you'll find a better facility in NY. They treated me like I was an actual human being and helped me turn my life around. The psychiatrist was really receptive to input and my counselor was amazing. The vegetarian food wasn't the greatest at times but they always had a pantry open if I wanted something else. I cherished the walks around the campus that we took. It's a rarity to be able to actually walk around outside of a facility while hospitalized!

Okay okay. Does this place cure your "illness"? No. Did it correctly diagnose me? Also no. Did they overmedicate me? Slightly. I stopped taking the klonopin 3 days after I left. But will they give you a safe, nice place to stay for inpatient without serious abuse of powers? Yes. Yes yes yes. Far from your state run, insanely crowded places, I actually was able to learn about a few different therapies I'd never heard about. Did I have an okay bed, half filled drawing books, and frozen bagels?...

Far from your state run, insanely crowded places, I actually was able to learn about a few different therapies I'd never heard about. Did I have an okay bed, half filled drawing books, and frozen bagels? Yes! Was I allowed to go freely from my room to the living/community space to the mini-kitchen (similar to college dorm kitchens - no stove but a microwave and fridge etc)? Yes.
Look, no place is going to cure you, they will rarely correctly diagnose you...but do you go in a moment of crisis? Yes. And will these people hurt you or drug you so you can't think? No. It is a safe place, and yes, a kind place. I still remember the intake officer rubbing my head, saying how young I was and to get me fresh clothes. I still remember everyone gathered around me when I passed out (from low blood pressure) and they were *worried*. Genuinely worried. I still remember my roommate. God, I hope you did the thing girl. You were so beautiful even though I know you'd never believe that. And I remember the cinnamon bagels with butter weren't too bad. So. Go. Take a chance. See you on the other side.

Messed up they don't test for covid before you get here. They should really do that.
I went here in 2018 for adult inpatient and outpatient, it was a really really good experience. I have been to another facility before that, and it was hell on earth. It's not perfect, and inpatient had some rough moments, but realistically I don't think you're going to find a better facility in NYS. I kind of wonder if other reviewers have been to other facilities before because other places are much worse....

It's not perfect, and inpatient had some rough moments, but realistically I don't think you're going to find a better facility in NYS. I kind of wonder if other reviewers have been to other facilities before because other places are much worse. I actually liked the food here, but I was made alternative food because of dietary restrictions so idk. Both inpatient and outpatient saved my life and taught me a lot of coping skills. Patients are wonderful and my experience helped me bond a lot with them which helped with recovery. Take all of this with a grain of salt though because I don't know if it's gone downhill since then. But during my time I didn't want to leave. I would go here again if my mental health ever worsens.

A good, safe place to stay in a crisis. Nearly all of the staff is extremely kind, and caring, and will be there if you ask for help. Shout-out to that mean lunch lady though, she was MISERABLE.
Do make sure that if you have severe adhd you'll be okay without your meds because I had to beg and plead to get put back on the smallest dose to try to focus in groups. It also messed up a lot of other things about my med treatment due to me not realizing that the intense restlessness I was feeling ...

Do make sure that if you have severe adhd you'll be okay without your meds because I had to beg and plead to get put back on the smallest dose to try to focus in groups. It also messed up a lot of other things about my med treatment due to me not realizing that the intense restlessness I was feeling was not me coming off of 12 years of concerta, but the abilify they put me on. They also put nearly everyone on abilify so if you are feeling Akathisia (intense restlessness, agitation, shaking) that's what's causing it.
They also gave me a benzo for an as needed med without telling me it was a benzo which I'm not super happy about. Definitely do your own research as soon as you get out. Or even bring in a med list so you can be educated. So I would not say that my med management experience was very good overall but the exception would be Dr. Clem. He's a great guy and was very helpful.
If you are needing help, ignore the bad reviews, ignore what I said about the meds; it's worth it to come here because you will be safe and cared for when you really need it.

I see all these negative reviews and I gotta say I loved this place. I went in a few times when I was younger for different reasons and each time I came out feeling better. This place helped me beat an eating disorder, got me on the right meds and the art therapy became a huge part of my life.

Unlike many other reviews on this site, this place helped me so much. It acted as a place of respite for me. I’ve seen comments saying that they got verbally abused for standing up for other clients? Maybe that’s on another wing but I personally stood up for another client and I had zero repercussions besides a talking to (a very kind one) from staff. Yes, it’s strict, but every mental health facility you go to likely will be, because that’s likely what you NEED. You’re there because you cann...

Yes, it’s strict, but every mental health facility you go to likely will be, because that’s likely what you NEED. You’re there because you cannot care for yourself for one reason or another. They have a dietician that is there if you have dietary needs or ED related issues, you go out on walks regularly, there’s a arts room you go to (clay, paints, water colors, everything and you can take it all home) you have 3-4 groups a day but will not be scolded if you miss one. Overall, this place helped me immensely. The only thing I can agree to based off these reviews is that the food sucks. But you know what? It’s a fricken psych hospital… what do you expect? Unless you’re wealthy you shouldn’t expect your insurance to care about what food you’re eating.

Hi I'm a former patient from 2023, and I went by Chip and my experience was pretty good they didnt check me for COVID which they shouldve but the staff was nice most of the time and I had a decent time there in freshwater. Tbh I only remember playing just dance and learning how to make bracelets. But it got the job done and the food isn't the best but no the worst.
